Shandong Provincial Qianfoshan Hospital is the first affiliated hospital of Shandong First Medical University, clinical teaching hospital of Cheeloo College of Medicine, Shandong University, and a charity hospital in Shandong province. It was founded in 1960 when China was in an economic difficult period. It attracted a large number of well-known medical experts and scholars gathering here from all over the country. In the early days, the Hospital mainly provided healthcare service for cadres in Shandong, which laid a solid foundation for the further development of healthcare and rehabilitation. After going through many vicissitudes, the Hospital has become a comprehensive provincial hospital open to the public since the end of the 1970s.
The Hospital has made great achievements since the Chinese economic reform. In 1995, the Hospital was graded as a comprehensive Class A tertiary hospital. In 2013 and 2019, the Hospital respectively passed the accreditation and reevaluation process for tertiary care hospitals, which made it step into a new period of development. Currently, the Hospital has been built into a large-scale provincial comprehensive Class A tertiary medical center committed to provide medical service, teaching, scientific research, rehabilitation, healthcare prevention and first aid. It has been awarded many honors, such as “National People-trusted Model Hospital”, “National Advanced Unit in Hospital Culture Construction”, “National Pioneer Advanced Grass-root Party Organization”, “National Advanced Unit in Healthcare Management”, “The National Exemplary Worker’s Family”, “National Innovation Unit in the Establishment of Clinical Pharmacist Institution in China”, “Qilu Pioneer of Primary Organization of CPC”, “The Provincial Civilized Unit”, “The Human Caring Hospital” and other honorary titles.
At present, the Hospital covers an area of more than 70,000 square meters with a total construction area of more than 230,000 square meters. There are 107 clinical departments and 2813 beds available. There are 3725 medical staff, among which more than 530 are professionals with the title of senior professors and associate technicians, including five “Double-employed” academicians, eleven “Taishan” scholars, two “Advanced Workers” of the national health system, twenty top-notch personnel enjoying the special government allowances issued by the State Council or being prized as “experts with outstanding contributions” by the National Health Commission or Shandong Province, one expert in the team devoted to the “Inheritance of Traditional Chinese Medicine Technology”, one listed in “National Talent Program”, Three 2nd-round reviewer from the discipline review group of National Natural Science Foundation, one technician titled as “Young and Middle-aged Key Talent in Shandong province”, thirty professors of Shandong University, fifty-three doctoral supervisors and over four hundred master supervisors. Eighty directors take the chairman roles in Shandong Medical Association, Shandong Physicians Association and Shandong Nursing Association.
The Hospital is listed in the “China’s Project of Improving the Treatment Capacity of Severe Respiratory Diseases”, the core unit of national respiratory clinical research center, and the base for the professional study in respiratory diseases and single-subject study in pulmonary function. It also possesses training base as designated by the National Health Commission for the specialists in cardiovascular diseases, endoscopic and minimally invasive surgery in otolaryngology, transanal endoscopic microsurgery (TEM), wound ostomy therapists, the prevention and treatment of VTE & DVT, the resident, clinical pharmacist and clinical pharmacist educator etc. Moreover, it is the qualification exam site for the national physicians and stomatologists. Clinical nursing is the key specialty evaluated by the National Health Commission. Several specialties such as encephalopathy joint discipline of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), neurology and neurosurgery departments have been rated as the national key clinical specialty by the National Health Commission and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Stroke unit of TCM and rehabilitation departments are rated as key specialties (special diseases) of the State Administration of TCM during the 11th five-year plan period. Twenty-three specialties such as General Surgery, orthopedics, clinical nursing, urology, ICU, cardiology, pathology, clinical laboratory are rated as key clinical specialties in Shandong province. TCM cardiology and TCM acupotomology are the key disciplines of traditional Chinese medicine in Shandong province. The laboratory of rheumatology and immunological translational medicine, Shandong provincial transanal endoscopic microsurgery（TEM） engineering laboratory and Shandong provincial health examination engineering laboratory are provincial key laboratories. The Hospital also has heart transplantation and materials engineering technology research center and children's drug clinical evaluation and development engineering technology research center. The eleven laboratories such as arrhythmia, microvascular medicine, rheumatism and immunity diseases, organ transplant nephropathy are leading laboratories of Shandong province. Anorectal diseases laboratory is a key laboratory of TCM in Shandong province.
The Hospital has established Shandong Forensic Medicine Judicial Identification Center, Shandong Provincial Heart Transplant Center and some Provincial Quality Control Centers such as Pathology, Clinical Nutrition, Blood Transfusion, and Health Management. It is the current council member of Shandong physician Association, Research Hospital Association of Shandong Province, Shandong Association of Health Economics, Shandong Provincial Youth Medical Workers Association.
The Hospital is qualified for heart, liver and kidney transplantation and it is the only qualified institution for heart transplantation in Shandong Province. It has successively carried out heart-kidney transplantation, liver-kidney transplantation, heart-lung transplantation, pediatric liver transplantation, testicular transplantation, and corneal transplantation. Many cases of liver transplantation have been completed successfully without blood transfusions intraoperatively and postoperatively. Among all the provincial A-level tertiary hospitals, it takes the leading role in operating bone marrow hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and is certified as the designated hospital for the hematopoietic stem cell collection for Chinese bone marrow bank and for the provision of diagnosis and treatment service for childhood leukemia.
The Hospital has been vigorously advocating the development of micro-invasive technology and interventional technology. Laparoscope, thoracoscope, uteroscope are widely used for many years. With the feature of small trauma and rapid recovery, the micro-invasive technology has been selected and performed by surgeons in many surgical departments. The interventional surgeries in cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, large blood vessels ranked forefront of the province. A number of new technologies such as sleeve gastrectomy weight loss surgery are conducted with the assistance of “DAVINCI Robot”. Transanal endoscopic microsurgery (TEM), brain surgery assisted with ROSA surgical Robot, and transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) surgery are well-known in nationwide.
The Hospital possesses a whole series of advanced medical equipment including a dual-console 4th-generation “DAVINCI” surgery robot, uEXPLORER PET-CT, American Varian Truebeam linear accelerator, German Siemens Skyra 3.0T smart magnetic resonance imaging, American GE Discovery gem HD spectrometry CT, digital flat cardiovascular system, flat digital HD gastrointestinal, Roche Synphilin dyeing, slicing all-in-one machine, high-grade color ultrasound, fully automatic biochemical analysis system and etc.
The Hospital actively implements the strategy of graded diagnosis and treatment, and has successively built counterpart supporting relationships with the People's Hospital of Yucheng County, the People's Hospital of Yuncheng County, the First Affiliated Hospital of Shihezi University School of Medicine in Xinjiang, the Second People's Hospital in Haibei Autonomous State, Qinghai Province, and regularly sent experts to provide support. On this basis, the Hospital further signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement with 110 hospitals including the City Hospital of Zaozhuang, Shandong Police General Hospitalm, has gradually formed a health service chain centered around technical service and with a variety of medical resources complementing with each other to drive the development of grass-roots cooperative hospitals in an all-round way. Meanwhile, in order to explore the road of grouping construction, the Hospital has established the Qianfoshan Hospital Group Shandong Province with the participation of 6 county-level hospitals of the People's Hospital in Cao County, the People's Hospital in Chengwu County etc. It also set up a few branch hospitals in Laicheng, Linyi Jinluo, Shanghe Lubei to serve the Health Shandong by promoting the vertical flow of high-quality medical resources and expanding the scope of its services.
The Hospital actively takes advantage of the nonprofit nature of the public hospital and devotes itself enthusiastically into the public welfare. It has carried out the “Cataract Rehabilitation Project”, the “Operation Smile”, the “Parent Kidney Transplantation”, the “Children's Congenital Heart Disease”, the “Children's Leukemia”, the “Children's Liver Transplantation”, the “Cochlear Implant” and other charitable relief projects. Besides, relying on the provincial charity hospital, it has established the Qianfoshan Hospital Charity Workstation, Shandong Province Charity Association, to raise funds for charitable relief projects.
In December 2018, the Hospital successfully held the first Party Congress, established the “12345” development strategy, and put forward the goal of constructing a first-class hospital with its own characteristics and aiming to be one of the top 100 domestic hospitals, all of which blew the new horn of getting ready, carrying forward, making progress for the transformation and development of the Hospital. In February 2019, the Hospital officially became the First Affiliated Hospital of Shandong First Medical University. With the abundant resources and strong advantages of the University, the Hospital adheres to the collaborative development of medicine, education and research and vigorously strengthens its connotation construction by sticking to the new developmental ideas of knife-edge inward structure adjustment, resource optimization, coordination, and innovation. Moreover, it promotes the efficiency and development after the disciplines adjusted.
